Student Spotlight: Meet the 2025-2026 Journalism Club Officers

Zoe Anderson - 12th

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

My favorite part about being in journalism is being able to grow my writing skills and collaborate with amazing people in and out of our club.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

I hope to see more writers this year and have the chance to highlight more accomplishments on our campus!


What else are you involved in on campus?

Here at Patriot, I am a part of many clubs including President of the Gay-Straight Alliance Club, Secretary for ASB, and Travel Club. I am also in Class Council and in the Varsity girls golf team. What are your future plans?

After high school I plan to attend CBU and major in Studio Production to become a music producer.

Madison McGarvey - 12th

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

Learning more about the different cultures and people at Patriot High School.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

I would like to see the club grow and more underclassmen get involved!


What else are you involved in on campus?

I am involved in ASB as Rally Commissioner. I am a captain and four-year Varsity member of cross country and a track & field. I am also a member of several other various clubs including NHS and CSF!


What are your future plans?

After high school I plan to attend college and major in Kinesiology.

Viviana Marroquin - 12th

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

Being in Journalism Club has really helped me get more involved, with both administration and my peers. I love being able to interact with people and creating articles for the student body, by the student body.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

This year, I hope our articles could reach more students. I aim to focus on topics that resonate more with my peers and receive more input from them.

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

Being able to share my personal experiences with life to help others feel less alone.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

More passion pieces like personal experiences and just talking about how life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.


What else are you involved in on campus?

I am a Senior here at Patriot High that likes to stay involved in my community. I am an officer for Jesus Club, RAK, and Journalism and I am a member of Hip-hop, K-Pop, and Clay Club.


What are your future plans?

After high school I plan to continue my education at RCC’s nursing program for two years and ship off to the Air Force. After returning I will continue into medical school. I also want to keep pursuing my love for ceramics and create art to show the joys of clay.

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

Being part of Journalism Club has been an amazing part of me. It has been helping me get to know different stories from different parts of our lives that evolve, in school, or outside.


The best part is always knowing, at least, the uniqueness of someone.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

For the future of the club, I would like to see it grow with the people who are genuinely passionate about writing, capturing, and sharing the bits of life of anyone they got to write on.

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

My favorite part has been getting to discover more out of my own desire or rather having somewhere to place my curiosity.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

I would like to see more involvement.


What else are you involved in on campus?

Here on campus I am involved in various clubs such as LC, NHS, CSF, and Sewing Club.


What are your future plans?

After high school I plan to attend college and build up a successful career.

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

Being able to get to know more about the different parts of the school.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

More people writing about more unique topics.


What else are you involved in on campus?

At schools I'm involved in sports such as cross country and swim. In addition to Journalism, I am involved in other clubs like NHS and Link Crew.


What are your future plans?

I would like to study history in hopes of becoming a history teacher.

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

Getting to know the ins and outs of programs and sports at Patriot.



What would you like to see for the future of the club?

I would like the SHIELD to become the main source for students to become informed if the going ons at Patriot.

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

I like working as a team to create cool things.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

Bigger network (more members), bigger website, newspaper; just general stuff. A newspaper would be cool, but nobody EVER uses paper.


What else are you involved in on campus?

At school I am involved in a few clubs, the most notable being journalism, Design Club, Cyber Security, Jesus Club and Music Club.


What are your future plans?

After high school, I plan on serving a mission then go to college for Computer Science.

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

I loved the free writing and collaboration I was able to do. I’ve met great and like minded people.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

I would love to see the possibility of video commentary and journalism especially at sporting events.


What else are you involved in on campus?

I am a senior here at patriot and I’m the treasurer for fashion club, a member of leadership club, and a member of interact club.


What are your future plans?

I plan to go to college after high school and study Political Science, and go to law school after that.

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

Throughout my years, I've been able to connect and interact with others in various ways.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

I love it just the way it is now!


What else are you involved in on campus?

I've been a part of the Clay Club for all four years of high school. I joined Journalism when I was in my junior year, and as well as been a part of Link Crew.


What are your future plans?

I've joined clubs that have helped me interact with others because after high school, I see myself going to college and studying psychology, and following that career path in hopes of helping others.

Being able to take pictures and have them published.

New perspectives from people about different topics.

What is your favorite part about being in journalism?

My favorite part about being in Journalism has been getting to know so many other people in this club, but also learning how to express myself and write about what I think is important to our school.


What would you like to see for the future of the club?

What I would like to see for the future of this club is to bring more people in this club and also bring more attention to the things we write about and the things we share.
