There is a club on campus that will meet you with kindness and acceptance. The Jesus Club is a club that focuses on teaching students to continuously grow as leaders through the love of Christ. For me, it has been a great experience to talk about different experiences that students face and share my own with others in this club.
During club meetings, the officers, Veronica Estrada, current President (and 2025 graduate), Vice Presidents Ava Ramirez (soon to be President for 25-26), Ariella Rosario, and Angel Lopez, club officer Kate Abarado, and advisor Mr. Bizzle, call for prayer at the beginning of the meeting. Soon after, the speaking begins.
The history of the club started long before them, but it is this group that continues this work on our campus.

Getting to Know Jesus Club
From reading various bible verses, to speaking the word of God, the meetings apply various biblical stories to real-life experiences and it was truly something to experience. I noticed the passion and the trust in God that members and leaders had. And when I asked the officers how they wanted students to feel after club meetings, Vice President Angel stated that they wanted everybody to feel refreshed, no stress, as they got to know Jesus.
“High schoolers may become interested in the club especially when they feel lost, sad, or feel like they might be missing something, and that something may be Jesus,” Angel continued. He wanted everyone to know that, “God has their back”.
They wanted people to feel God’s presence and the love that God feels for them.
In my experience, they did an excellent job of eliciting this feeling.
Angel also stated that he hopes members feel comfortable enough to ask questions, so that they can walk out of the classroom with a sense of fulfillment, and they can feel understood and supported. The club also hopes that leaders are being a good example to others. “Not perfect, because no one is perfect,” but they spoke of Jesus’ teachings in the Bible of peace, joy, love, and kindness, and that everyone deserves to experience these things in their lives.
Additionally, I gathered that many of the leaders have biblical knowledge and they are very approachable to ask questions. I observed them making connections with their peers and creating a community where they are not forcing any kind of religion but giving others their spiritual knowledge. Maybe church might feel forced at times, but at this meeting, all students wanted to be there.
Last year, the Jesus Club held a ceremony in the theater, called “Revival Rally”. In this rally, they worshipped God and listened to a testimony given by Vice President Angel Lopez.
What's next for Jesus Club?
So, what is next for PHS Jesus Club? They want to continue the legacy of the club. Ava Ramirez, one of the Vice Presidents, hopes to grow the club more and showcase it by making posters around campus dedicating them to love and kindness. She would like to incorporate more prayer into the club meetings. She wants to create more relationships with others on campus and wants to focus on increasing spiritual knowledge.
President Veronica Estrada quotes Revelations 3:20 as we close our interview. "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me."
Vice President Ava Ramirez says “It is never too late to turn to Jesus, he’s ready to take you whenever you are ready. God is gentle, and God is slow to anger. God is good, Amen!”
