Gissell Rodriguez
Year:
Gissell Rodriguez is a Junior Graphic Design student who is in the Capstone course, Graphic Technologies for Print Careers. She has two years of experience as a designer and is very active in using her skills to help our Warrior community. This year, aside from flourishing within the classroom, she has lent her illustration skills to other clubs to help create visuals for them. She rendered a logo for the Spanish Club and also contributed to the Fall Festival activities by designing and producing thematic buttons to be sold at the Design Club booth. The project highlighted in the photograph is a set of digital drawings that Gigi created for the Fall Festival, which incorporates her love of cats with a suitable fall theme. They were a big hit at the festival! She is a tremendously positive force inside and outside of the classroom and is always eager to pursue new creative challenges.
In a candid conversation with Gissell, she talks of being a little girl and loving to draw. Her elementary teachers would tell her mom of her skill, and her mom decided to buy her supplies to keep practicing her hobby. Gissell is thinking of a future in Graphic Design, Architecture, or Fashion Design. Her support system on campus includes Mr. Reed, who has encouraged her to pursue art and has given her guidance along the way. Her friends are also very supportive of her hobby and think it’s “cool” to do what she does. They all allowed her to express herself in creative ways. She gives others advice by telling them to “reach out to people who are supportive and don’t mind criticism if this is what you love to do.”
