Patriot Graphic Design

One of the most popular CTE pathways at our school is Graphic Design. Let’s take a closer look at what makes it stand out.

The course in this pathway is Computer Graphics and Design. It’s a gentle introduction to the fundamentals of design, focusing mainly on Adobe Photoshop. In the second year course, Graphics Tech/Print Careers, students can further build those skills by learning Adobe Illustrator to create physical products.

The program’s teacher, Mr. Reed, places a lot of emphasis on creativity. He gives students plenty of time to create personal projects and the freedom to shape their work into something meaningful to them. This approach allows them to design without unnecessary pressures and fully develop their designs. They are free to design without “stress or anything in the way,” as one student puts it.

Students consistently praise this teaching style. Many students say they feel more invested in the class and that it has deepened their love for art. Other students mention just how rewarding it is to have the ability to turn their ideas into real, tangible products. It creates a more complete sense of closure for a design.

Overall, students highly recommend this class. As one puts it, “I really do recommend this class if you love being creative and want your ideas to come to life!”

But that’s enough talk. When talking about a graphic design class, it would be lame if we didn’t have any designs to look at! So I asked students from Mr. Reed’s classes to share some of their designs, and they did not disappoint.

Our school is full of talented people. Don’t ever feel afraid or embarrassed to share your talent with others. Nine times out of ten, that person will appreciate and be grateful you shared it! And who knows, maybe they can help you improve and become better. A talent that goes unshared is truly one wasted.

Thank you to everyone who was able to share something with us! I really loved the opportunity to look through your art and read about you amazing people!
