Black Student Union (BSU) Club is a club for our students to have a safe space to connect, gather, communicate, and be among each other to learn and/or discuss issues affecting the black community. Any student is welcomed in this circle as it also centers on connections and sharing of experiences of all kinds.
I joined the club to be around my culture and hear others like me, including teachers and other leaders, speak from my point of view. It is important to me to come together and learn as a community and a family. I have found these things in our BSU Club.
Some of the activities we have done is to connect with other BSU clubs in our district. This year, we met at Jurupa Valley High School and along with their BSU club and Rubidoux’s club we watched a powerful presentation. We also attended Unity Day put on by Chaffey High School’s BSU program, attended a UCR conference, and attended the Black College Expo at the LA Forum.
Some of the goals in our club is to find information about current events and to understand our own culture and ourselves through these issues, as well as sharing it with others with a historical understanding. These goals are important to me because we are learning and able to teach it to others.
I would like to give a special thank you to our advisors Ms. Cage, Ms. King, and Ms. Mann, and to our club president Jordyn Knight.
BSU meets in D101 every other Wednesday. Come by!
